About this deal

As she unravels the traps, her sanity tested with each game, she’s forced to acknowledge the true evil in the world around her. The dialogue felt a bit robotic and monotone, but that was defeated by the over empowering monologue with both the characters. At times, the story could get confusing, but I learnt early that, that was the style of the flow and rhythm of the pace.

Her work has been featured and taught in some of the best classes in understanding the mind of serial killers and how they operate.I think it was Annika Martin (yes, the author), who first brought this book to my attention in her newsletter.

All that psychopathy restrained on a leash while he's chained up and trying to push London over the edge, while she is hella turned on but still trying to maintain a sense of professionalism was just. Although the book is short, it is action-packed and ends with a cliffhanger that will leave you eager to read the next installment. In his therapy sessions with London we catch glimpses of his ingenuity and sometimes beneath his cold, hard veneer you could peek just a hint of vulnerability. The whole time I was reading this I just wanted to laugh at the beautiful irony of someone like London being a criminal psychologist. This story was brilliant in every sense of the word and the author did something so extremely different. Before being transferred to a maximum security penitentiary, he decides to have therapy sessions with a criminal psychologist, London Noble, who would evaluate and diagnose him before his trial in three months, and speak on his behalf at the trial and advocate for leniency. That’s not funny but it does make an interesting, involving with a lot of twists and turns that lives you wanting more read. Grayson is a serial killer who does not repent he thinks he’s doing the world a favour by killing undesirables that have sick tendencies that the justice system would fail to convict.

I was so fucking entranced by her world building- perhaps more so than I was with this story itself. I was in college waiting for a seminar to begin when I started this book, and I literally had to walk out because it was either that or put the book down, and I couldn’t put this book down goddammit! The “unintentional” touches, the selection of specific words, the actions that have to take place are all done with a purpose in mind- and Grayson knows what his end goal is.
