The 64 three-color Launch pads are the best way to connect with your music - in the studio or on stage.
Whether you're a DJ, performing musician or studio producer, Launchpad gives you all you need to use your software straight out of the box. The Launchpad offers an 8x8 grid RGB pads that let you launch clips, play drum racks and create melodies. Use the 64-button grid to launch and manipulate clips, trigger loops, fire off effects, control your mixer - and much more.Launchpad gives you hands-on control of Max for Live: turn it into a step sequencer, trigger videos from drum pads and much more. Due to the fact that Velocity is adjustable now, it's no problem to choose the colour of the desired LED. I must warn though that the PC software supplied with this - `Ableton Live Lite` is too advanced for a novice - and not much cop for an experienced musician, you need the full version to do the biz. This mode is recommended if the Launchpad S is being used with a standard desktop/laptop computer, and particularly in daylight. You can control almost any music software using Novation's award-winning 'Automap' control software - and Launchpad S is fully MIDI class-compliant so it'll drive any MIDI application.
The new, revamped Launchpad S holds onto everything that made the original Launchpad so successful, while adding some welcome tweaks and upgrades to really bring this device to its full potential. Obviously, apps need to be made 'Launchpad-aware' to drive the device in all its multi-colour, multi-level glory. All the controls are the same shape, size and in the same position, and side-by-side testing of the two Launchpad models suggests no change to the material or mechanism behind the buttons. The app features a 1GB sample pack of brand new hand-picked loops curated by Loopmasters, ranging from drum samples to artist packs across a variety of modern genres. With its minimalist grid of 64 white-on-black pads and zero-hassle integration with Live’s main performance features, the Launchpad added a new sense of flair to the performance and creation of electronic music. If you’re going to use the Launchpad S in daylight, though, you’ll want to switch it to ‘full power’ mode. Launchpad S comes with the Launchpad Edition of Ableton Live, so you can start making music straight away. Class compliance’ may not sound sexy, but the fact that you can use the Launchpad S with more apps, more operating systems (Linux) and more types of devices (like the iPad), is.
New modes allow you to switch between triggering clips, controlling Live devices, and using the grid as drum pads or a chromatic keyboard. And, while using a touchscreen like the iPad’s is great for some things, adding a matrix of hardware controls creates a more tactile and immediate system. Four years after its original release, Novation has decided the Launchpad could use a reboot, keeping in mind the old phrase, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. To do this, you’ll need to have the USB adapter that comes as part of the iPad Camera Connection Kit.Chnage the way you produce and perform, use them together for total hands-on control of your mixer, instruments and effects. The Launchpad S will not work with an iPad if it is in full-power mode unless a separate powered USB hub is used. I fired up Novation's Launchpad iPad app and the Launchpad S obligingly mirrored the app, allowing loops to be triggered and effects to be punched in from the pads, with the LEDs following the display state of the app. The new LED’s are also designed to be more usable for people with color-blindness, who had trouble distinguishing between the amber and green states of the original Launchpad.
