About this deal

When you look at the color wheel, you will see saturated colors consisting of primary and secondary colors. Colors like brown, earth tones, and khaki are compound colors, meaning that they are a combination of the three primary colors. Creating color gradations is about moving from one complementary color to another one including all the compound colors in between. You can add varying amounts of white, or your paint thinner, to get many different tints of the same color! Below we see 50% tints (equal blends of color + white). NOTE: We advice you to avoid using more than 3 of these in a DJ set, or it will begin to lose its effect and make your overall mix sound a little incohesive. Scale change Beat Detective by Pro Tools also offers an easy solution for detecting the key to your songs. Unlike Mixed in Key, which only displays the detected key, Beat Detective displays multiple notes at once while analyzing a single song. In addition to displaying the detected key, it also explains why that particular song may be in that particular key. Whenever a DJ refers to “mixing in key,” they’re essentially just using another phrase for harmonic mixing. As important as tempo, energy, and emotional content is to a cohesive set, harmonic mixing is another piece of that puzzle. A well-rounded DJ recognizes all of this and plans their sets accordingly. How to Use the Camelot Wheel to Mix in Key

This info can be shown to you in a column within your music library, so you can make use of it. Make sure you set your software up so that the key shows. Using this system, you can guarantee that your DJ set will be mixed in key, provided you have enough songs with compatible keys in your chosen playlist. More Harmonic mixing features #

When mixing colors in this category, you can create a massive range of shades and tones. This can be adjusted depending on how much of each color you add, and which tones of primary colors you use. You can follow a color-mixing guide to get the exact shade you want, but really the best thing to do is just expermiment. The more you play around with mixing colors, the more you will start to understand which combinations produce which results. You might be under the impression that the colors actually refer to the ‘brightness’ or the ‘warmth’ of the keys, but that’s usually a completely subjective matter that has little relevance to the Camelot system. A color wheel is an arrangement of different color hues around a circle that shows the relationship between primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. We instigated the Harmonic Mixing revolution and have shown millions of DJs how to use this powerful technique.

Essentially, there are 12 major and 12 minor keys in music. Each of these uses a different, and unique, combination of notes. You can play any notes within the key, and it will sound good. However, if you play notes outside the key, it sounds clashy and dissonant - often sounding like a mistake. So you’ve nailed the basics – you can mix up and down on the Camelot Wheel and are loving the results. While this varies with brands and paint types, you often get a slightly different finish between wet and dried paint. Dried paints are often lighter. This means that you might want to darken some colors before using them, as they will dry to a lighter shade. Before changing colors though, always test them out first and experiment a little. A tint is a color mixed with white to make it lighter. If using a transparent medium like watercolor paint or dye, you can also use more water and less pigment to create a tint.

So 2A is NOT a note “higher” than 1A, and it is NOT a note “lower” than 3A. It’s important you remember this when trying to understand such discussions. If you’re looking for resources to compliment your teaching on colour, then you’ve come to the right place. When it comes to learning about basic colour mixing, resources like this one can be “wheely” helpful (...sorry). This is one of the most unpleasant key transitions out there and has a very dissonant and clashy feel. This should only be attempted if you know what you are doing, and you have tested that the two songs work "well" together. That said, it can have a cool and mysterious effect if pulled off well. DJ.Studio's Harmonic Automix Tool # If you don't mix harmonically, there is a good chance you might mix two songs that don't sound good together, which can create awkward and dissonant mixes. Its powerful key detection algorithm shows you how all the songs in your library connect based on their keys.
