During the national lockdown, concepts such as mutual aid were brought to the forefront of public consciousness, with mutual aid groups becoming commonplace across the country. Dominvs Group’s in-house Social Value Unit exemplifies their commitment to putting community value at the heart of their strategy, both throughout the development lifecycle and over the long term.While the activities provided structure and focus, it was the conversations that were encouraged and facilitated to take place between participants where the transformative work took place – where connections were built for future engagement and action. The meal, prepared by Tallawah Ali, was a beautiful and nourishing demonstration of putting sustainable and just agricultural work into practice. Discussions about online activism and direct action in the form of demonstrations often focus on their impact on the external world. The thriving green space brought 1,500 people, predominantly from under-represented communities, back into the heart of the City as part of the City of London’s Culture and Commerce taskforce, boosting London’s post-pandemic recovery.
More than200 young Londonerswere involved in not just the building and gardening but also the curatingofGaia's live events programme.Makeshift wooden walls sheltered a stage and a smattering of wooden benches amongst an ethereal meadow of planters, streaming banners, and artworks. Best of all, once it’s established, an ecological garden will reduce or eliminate most of the work that’s needed to maintain the typical lawn and garden. The thriving green space brought 1,500 people predominantly from under-represented communities back into the heart of the Square Mile.
Supported by Dominvs Group, the Gaia’s Garden project’s objective was to bring young people from underprivileged backgrounds into the City of London post-pandemic to enjoy green space, while simultaneously reconnecting with both the city and nature to improve community wellbeing.
